They called him Fat Bob before he ever swung a blade, and Bob figured a man might as well spend his life agreeing with strangers, so he did, with gusto and several extra helpings. It was in the Dojo gardens, koi pond glinting, wisteria doing its polite little dance, that the degens found him mid-nap, using his own belly as a pillow, and formed a circle to admire the spectacle like it was performance art. Worse still, the elders shuffling past on their evening stroll took one look at this sunburned mountain of a former samurai snoring among the bonsai and, with the casual cruelty only grandparents possess, spat clean past their canes to express their professional disappointment. Bob woke to laughter and phlegm and, in a rare moment of clarity between hangovers, decided today was the day he would chase healthier pleasures, herbal tea instead of sake, mindful walks instead of face-down naps in sacred shrubbery. He made it four hours before someone offered him mochi shaped like a coin and, well, some floors you just cannot resist testing.'
