They started calling him Fat Bob back when he was still a lean blade with a temper, and somewhere between the third bowl and the tenth lost bet the name just decided to fit, the way prophecies do when you stop resisting them. In his own quarters, no less, some loudmouth investor-samurai came screaming about slippage and stop-losses, and Bob, who once could've ended a duel with a single unbothered exhale, just sat there nodding, aped deeper into the trade to prove he wasn't scared, and watched his whole treasury get rugged in the time it takes to reload a bong. He laughed about it after, big belly shaking, because what else do you do when the floor drops out from under a man who used to stand his ground for a living. Every morning he swears this is the day he meditates before he trades, sits seiza, breathes like his old sensei taught him, and every morning he's cross-legged on the mat with a joint in one hand and his phone in the other, chasing green candles like a monk chasing enlightenment he keeps letting slip through his soft, dangerous fingers. Still, underestimate him at your peril, because somewhere under all that laughter and lost coin is the same quiet blade that never actually left, just got real good at hiding behind a punchline and a bad trade.
