There was a time, if you squint hard enough at the old dojo scrolls, when they called him something other than Fat Bob, back when his stances were clean and his discipline was the stuff sensei bragged about at parties. These days he mostly bragged about surviving a night that ended with him face down in a laundry basket in his buddy's bed, a tragedy of gravity and gyoza that he insists was rugged upon him by fate itself. He'd gone over there for a friendly sesh, one bowl, maybe two, strictly recreational, purely ceremonial, and somewhere between the third refill and a debate about whether his old katana would still fetch decent floor price on a nostalgia trade, the room simply stopped cooperating with his legs. He toppled like a temple statue with bad knees, basket and all, and lay there long enough to fully reconsider the shape of his life, concluding with great calm that the whole experience was, frankly, uninspiring. Somewhere his old master wept into his tea, watching a man who once split bamboo mid air now getting out muscled by a laundry hamper, and Bob, ever jovial, ever doomed, just laughed and asked if there was more weed.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
It's been that kind of day. The Bloody Mess clothing doesn't mean the fighter lost — it means they were in it deep enough that cleanliness became irrelevant.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
