Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned it and Fat Bob after, and somewhere in the middle he decided fighting the name was more exhausting than just becoming it, so he stopped resisting and got real good at pretending the belly was a strategy. On Mount Koriyoka, in the cold hour before the sect's final trial, Bob convinced himself he'd finally out-thought his master, some half-baked sabotage involving loosened rope, a borrowed sake jug, and a plan he was ninety percent sure existed. It did not go well, not in the way he'd sketched it in his head between bong rips the night before, and the mountain watched him overestimate his own cleverness with the patient contempt of a place that has seen a thousand fools try the same trick. His master, to Bob's genuine shock, ended up freeing him from the order entirely rather than killing him, muttering something about mercy being wasted on men too dense to know they'd already lost. Bob walked down that mountain unburdened, ungoverned, and utterly ruined in the best possible way, and he still swears, between bites of dumplings he definitely shouldn't be eating, that it was all part of the plan, discipline be damned, floor's not even real anymore anyway.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Mastery without ceremony. The Kung Fu Master fighters stopped needing to prove the title long before anyone stopped asking for proof.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
