Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned a single scar, and true to degen form, Bob spent a lifetime making the nickname prophecy instead of insult. The dojo latrines were meant to be a place of quiet reflection between katas, but Bob turned even that into legend, hunched over a stolen bowl of grilled saba, laughing at his own joke when a bone lodged sideways in his throat and nearly sent him to the next dojo in the sky. He didn't die, of course, Fat Bob never does the dignified thing when the undignified one is funnier, but he did turn purple, knock over three latrine doors, and become a cautionary tale whispered by sensei for years after. The elders, unimpressed by a warrior whose closest brush with death came from poor chewing technique, rugged him from the roster that same week, floor price zero, no refunds. Bob shrugs about it now between bong rips, insisting the real lesson was self-discipline, then immediately ordering more fish, because a man who's already proven his own name right has nothing left to lose but his appetite.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for what it abandoned. The No Honor Kimono fighters gave up on the codes others follow and found that this freed them completely.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ceremony interrupted. The Disheveled Geisha fighters started something formal and ended something entirely different.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
