Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he ever earned it, and somewhere between the last war and the first all-you-can-eat special he decided the name deserved a legacy, so he built one rib by rib. The dignity went missing on a Tuesday at the local yakiniku, when he caught his old friend cheating on his tab and, instead of paying like a man of honor, slid a photo across the grill and asked what a little extra pork belly might be worth to keep it quiet. His friend paid, Bob ate free for a month, and somewhere a dojo master spun in his grave hard enough to fan the coals himself. Bob laughs about it now between bites, jovial as ever, insisting it was only business, though anyone who's seen him move knows the same hands that grabbed that skewer could've ended the whole meal in one clean stroke. He tells himself tomorrow he'll return the money, sharpen his blade, remember who he used to be, but tomorrow smells like garlic butter and Bob, bless him, never was one to skip a meal for a principle.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Mastery without ceremony. The Kung Fu Master fighters stopped needing to prove the title long before anyone stopped asking for proof.
