Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he ever earned it, back when he was just a skinny kid with a big name and bigger ideas about discipline, and he spent thirty years proving the nickname right one dumpling and one bad bet at a time. At the Degen Dojo he finally sat down to arrange his thoughts, cross-legged, breathing slow like the old sword masters taught, determined this would be the day he became a monk instead of a menace. Somewhere between minute two and minute three his mind wandered off toward the floor price of his favorite jpeg and a half-eaten bowl of ramen, and by minute five he was laughing so hard at his own failure that the whole Dojo turned to look. Word got out that Fat Bob had achieved a kind of enlightenment that morning, though nobody could quite explain what it was, and somehow that made him a legend anyway. He called it thrilling, the way a man calls falling down the stairs thrilling right before he does it again tomorrow, grinning the whole way down.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Lord's garment worn into battle. The Daimyo Warrior Kimono fighters have authority they didn't ask for and intention they haven't announced.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ceremony interrupted. The Disheveled Geisha fighters started something formal and ended something entirely different.
A rat. Named. With opinions. Mr. Rumi The Rat is a familiar, a co-combatant, and probably the one with the plan. The fighter is the muscle.
