Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he ever picked up a blade, and somewhere between the wars and the weed he decided the easiest path was to just lean into it, so lean he did, straight over a basket of daikon in a crowded Nagoya market. The crash drew a crowd, the crowd drew laughter, and by the time he'd untangled himself from wicker and root vegetables three separate merchants swore they'd seen him dodge a runaway cart with the grace of a falling god. Bob, half stoned and fully bruised, decided not to correct the legend, because a man who has been laughed at his whole life learns quick that reputation is just a story people agree to believe. Now he's floor to a rented barn outside town, hanging a hand painted sign that says DOJO in letters that lean like he does, promising discipline to students while he himself skips morning drills for morning bongs. Every day he means to be the master the sign claims he is, and every day the basket wins again, but somehow the bruises just make the legend grow, and Fat Bob grows fonder of being exactly what everyone always said he'd be.
Collected. Not borrowed. The Foes Teeth fighters carry proof of every fight they've won around their neck and find it a useful conversation starter.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
On fire, stable. The Burning Basket fighters operate in conditions most find impossible and have stopped noticing the fire.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
