Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he ever earned it, some cruel nickname flung at a lean young swordsman who trained before dawn and ate like a monk, and Fat Bob spent the next twenty years making the name true out of sheer stubborn spite and love of noodles. Honor once sat on him like good armor, polished daily, until the night he drank with Legless Tom in the old family house and the sake kept coming faster than any apology ever could. He woke the next morning to find his discipline had quietly packed up and left with the empty bottles, and he has been chasing it ever since with the grim determination of a man chasing a cart downhill. Every dawn he vows to skip the rice wine, do his forms, remember who he was, and every dusk finds him again at Tom's table losing that same noble little battle with a grin instead of a grimace. Yet for all his belly laughs and bigger belly, there is still a blade's quickness hiding under the softness, and the wise never mistake his chuckle for surrender.
Collected. Not borrowed. The Foes Teeth fighters carry proof of every fight they've won around their neck and find it a useful conversation starter.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Clean but rough. The White Ruffian fighters look like they could have behaved properly and chose not to. The white makes the choice more visible.
Musical instrument. Strung instrument. The Shamisen fighters understand that performance and violence are not opposites — they are the same act in different registers.
