Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned an ounce of the name, and somewhere along the road from disciplined blade-man to whatever this is now, he decided the least he could do was grow into it properly. Once he moved through the world with a straight spine and a straighter code, until the day some ancient auntie at the men's pleasure house looked him dead in the eye and spat, right there on the polished floor, like she'd seen through every lie his posture was telling. He tells people it was the steam that got in her eye, but he knows better, and so does she, wherever she is now, probably still smug about it. Every morning since he vows today's the day he floors it back into shape, maybe skips the dumplings, maybe meditates before the weed instead of after, and every morning by noon he's back on the mat with crumbs on his belly, laughing so hard at himself the whole dojo shakes. Underneath the jelly and the giggle there's still a sword that never dulled, which is the only reason nobody laughs at Fat Bob twice.'
Heavy. Deliberate. The Gold Earring fighters wear their conviction in precious metal on the outside so everyone knows before they speak.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Not born with them. Became them. The Grey Oni Horns fighters grew their nature slowly until it became structural.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
