They called him Fat Bob before he ever earned it, and by the time the ronin lay scattered across the mud outside Nagoya, he had proven the name right twice over, once with his belly and once with his blade. Something in him snapped loose after that fight, some cord of faith he'd carried since the temple days, and he decided the only honorable exit left was seppuku, a clean quiet ending befitting a man who used to mean something. He even bought the ceremonial blade off some guy in the market, still has the receipt, still hasn't used it. Every morning he sets out the mat, lights the incense, rolls a fat one to steady his nerves, and somehow ends up three hours deep in a dice game with the temple groundskeeper instead, laughing so hard he nearly rips his own gut open for free. Fat Bob knows discipline is the one floor he keeps promising to hold, and he knows, jovially, self deprecatingly, dangerously, that he's about to get rugged by his own vices yet again.
