Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned a single scar, back when he was just a wide-shouldered boy with a wider appetite, and somewhere along the way he decided the fastest path to peace was simply to become the name rather than fight it. Atop Mount Haku he won the duel that should have crowned him shogun, blade clean, footwork honest, the mountain wind applauding him in silence, and then he did what Fat Bob does: he celebrated like the war was already lost and the sake was the real reward. By morning the throne had drifted to someone soberer and better postured, and Bob woke tangled in his own banner with a headache shaped like regret and a grin shaped like acceptance. He tells the young fighters he's rebuilding discipline one dawn at a time, meditation at sunrise, no drink till dusk, and he even believes it for the first four hours of most days. Still, ask anyone who's sparred him hungover on a Tuesday, that belly hides a blade you do not want to meet, and Fat Bob just shrugs, cracks open another bottle, and says the mountain will still be there tomorrow, probably, one day at a time.
Sober, unlike the drunk variant. The Lizard fighters have a companion with excellent judgment who never asks for anything and always seems to know when to leave.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Sovereignty in fabric form. The Queeny Chic fighters dress with authority that was never granted by anyone else and therefore can't be revoked.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Mastery without ceremony. The Kung Fu Master fighters stopped needing to prove the title long before anyone stopped asking for proof.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
