Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he ever earned it, and Fat Bob spent thirty years proving the name right, one bowl and one bad bet at a time. Once he dreamed of the shogunate, staking his whole fortune on a single reckless charge across the tatami, certain the mats would remember him as a conqueror instead of a cautionary tale. They rugged him instead, stripped him down to his topknot and his laugh, and somewhere between the fourth loss and the fifth joint he realized the discipline he'd trained his whole life for had wandered off with his coin purse. He still tries, some mornings, to rise before dawn and swing his blade with the old seriousness, but the blade mostly ends up as a backscratcher and the dawn mostly finds him snoring. Poorer, softer, gigglier, Fat Bob will tell you with a gap-toothed grin that losing everything was the best fight he ever won.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Carried more than worn. The Pocket Glasses fighters have perfect vision when they choose to apply it — the rest of the time, they let instinct run.
Intentional declaration. The Mohawk Spike fighters made a choice that announces itself before they speak.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
