Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned it and Fat Bob he became, a name like a prophecy he spent thirty years fulfilling one dumpling at a time. Once he was a blade of a man, disciplined, lean, the kind of samurai who could hold a stance until the moss grew on him, but that fella got rugged somewhere between the last war and the first all-night sake bender. The end came in the dirt outside a Kyoto noodle stand, wagering his honor and his lunch money on a sword duel he was too full and too fried to win, and he went down laughing with rice grains still stuck to his cheek. His opponent walked away with his blade, his integrity, and what little was left of his floor price as a fighter, and Bob just lay there grinning up at the sky like a man who'd expected this outcome his whole life. He tells himself every morning he'll get back to basics, forms before food, discipline before drink, and every morning he tells himself that story is a little more fiction, but underneath the belly and the giggle there's still a blade that moves faster than anyone expects, right up until it doesn't.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The name is the lore. The Poop Pride Kimono fighters have transcended embarrassment so completely that they wear the proof. Undefeated.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Clean but rough. The White Ruffian fighters look like they could have behaved properly and chose not to. The white makes the choice more visible.
Chain-sickle, aged. The Rusty Kusarigama fighters have been in more fights than maintenance sessions.
