Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he ever earned it, and somewhere along the line the man decided the only honorable path was to make the name true, so he did, gloriously, one dumpling and one bad decision at a time. The night his shot at real glory finally came, the tournament torches lit and his old sensei watching from the crowd, Bob caught sight of his mistress slipping away toward the sunset and, being a man of priorities, aped straight after her instead of into the ring. He tells it now with a wheezing laugh, how he traded a legacy for a woman who ghosted him two towns later anyway, rugged by his own heart same as any bad trade. These days he swears he is done chasing shiny things and shiny people, that what he needs is better quality friends, ones who will drag him to the dojo at dawn instead of the sake house at dusk. He says this while pouring another round for the very degenerates he claims are the problem, chuckling that a man his size was built to carry burdens, mostly regret, and mostly on an empty floor where discipline used to live.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Paper screen optics. The Shoji Glasses fighters see the world through traditional frames — and find that the tradition holds.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
Fermented projectile. The Beer Splash fighters found the most abundant thing in the Dojo and weaponized it.
