They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned it, and somewhere between the third dojo he got kicked out of and the first pleasure house that let him run a tab, he decided the name was less an insult than a prophecy he ought to fulfill properly. So he ordered the chicken, then ordered more chicken, then ordered chicken like he was aping into a floor he swore was about to pump, plate after plate vanishing while the geisha placed side bets on whether his belt would survive the night. Somewhere around the eighth skewer something shifted in him, some old bushido muscle memory mistaking gluttony for gains, and he stood up feeling more dangerous than he had since his last real duel, chest out, grease on his chin like war paint. He knows a real samurai trains the body, fasts before battle, keeps discipline sharp as the blade, and every single night he tells himself tomorrow's the night he starts that again. Tomorrow never orders the salad though, and Fat Bob, jovial and softly terrifying in equal measure, just laughs that big wheezing laugh and calls for the check and one more plate, honestly thrilled at how right his own name turned out to be.”
