Once he was disciplined, rice-and-water disciplined, katas-at-dawn disciplined, the kind of ronin who could sit seiza for an hour without his knees betraying him. Then came the Tsukiji fish market, a stall of eels, and Fred's snake, some cursed pet the old man kept coiled near the mackerel, and one lazy afternoon it sank its fangs into Bob's wrist like fate delivering a verdict. Something in him rewired that day, discipline draining out the puncture wound and pure degeneracy pouring in, and he woke up craving sake, gyoza, and chaos in equal measure.
