Ben laughed so hard he dropped a rib in the dirt, and Fat Bob just shrugged, licked sauce off his thumb, and said the sword probably wanted out of this lifestyle anyway. Somewhere under the jovial belly and the busted steel, the old discipline stirred, a quiet ghost asking if a real samurai would ever treat his blade like a napkin holder, and Fat Bob promised himself, again, that tomorrow he'd train instead of graze. He stared up through the branches, sauce on his chin, wondering what kind of future waits for a warrior who can still crack a boulder with his fist but can't keep a sword whole through lunch.”
