Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned an inch of it, and he spent the rest of his days proving the name right one lazy sin at a time. The night it all clicked, he was sprawled in his friend's futon in some forgotten ryokan outside Kyoto, half-heartedly shaking down a beggar for coppers he didn't even want, more interested in the bag of weed tucked under the pillow than the man's empty purse. He robbed the poor the way he did most things, halfway, hungry only for the snack after, and when it was done he just felt hollow, like he'd skipped the good part of a fight and gone straight to the nap. Somewhere under the fat and the failure was a samurai who once trained before dawn with a blade steady as prayer, and that ghost sighed every time Bob rolled over and reached for the bong instead of the sword. He still tries, bless him, setting alarms for discipline he never wakes up for, proving the name Fat Bob a little more right with every snooze button he mashes into oblivion.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Half the statement. The Skull Sleeve fighters communicate their philosophy in one arm — the other arm is for whatever needs doing next.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
Named for an incident. The Sushi Fight fighters have a story about how they got this hairstyle. They don't tell the story. The hair does.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
