Fat Bob showed up to the Darkness Festival the way he showed up everywhere, laughing at himself before anyone else got the chance, fishing shamelessly for compliments like a man who once commanded a hundred spears and now just wants somebody to tell him his topknot still looks sharp. He cast his little hooks all night, humble brags dressed as jokes, and the festival's old gods apparently don't appreciate being used as a comment section, because by dawn he woke up tainted, cursed, glowing faintly wrong in the eyes. Bob just shrugged his big shoulders and grinned, because a name like Fat Bob was built for exactly this kind of humiliation, and he's spent a whole life proving the joke right so one more curse barely dents the streak. He swore, weed rolled loose in one hand and sake sloshing in the other, that he'd meditate on discipline starting tomorrow, same promise he's broken every morning since the wars ended. Wiser now, sure, tainted too, but still the same jovial disaster who could probably still end you before the second compliment finished leaving his mouth.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Half the statement. The Skull Sleeve fighters communicate their philosophy in one arm — the other arm is for whatever needs doing next.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
