Diary
They called him Fat Bob before he'd earned a single scar, and he spent thirty years of sake, mahjong losses, and questionable dumpling decisions making sure the name stuck like rice to a bowl. So when The Degen Scholar found him sulking beneath the cedars of a nameless grove outside Kyoto, muttering about his floor price and his knees, Bob expected mockery, not a sermon. Instead the old ronin spoke of ink and discipline, of how even a soft blade can carve a legacy if it swings with intention, and something in Bob's gut, buried under years of tempura and self-doubt, sat up and paid attention. He walked out of those trees taller, or at least standing straighter than his belt allowed, newly convinced he had a book in him, some memoir of chaos and honor called probably something like
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wore everything out. The Dirty Peasant Rags fighters have been in the Dojo so long that newness has become impossible — everything they own carries the evidence.
The most accurate names arrive from someone else — and Fat Bob's did, unkindly, long ago. He's spent every fight since proving whoever it was had a point.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Wild, electrified. The Zapachi fighters' hair moves independently and the fighter has accepted that this is appropriate.
Heavy, ceramic, purpose-built for one thing and used for another. The Giant Sake Bottle fighters are creative about their arsenal.
