Diary
Fatty Bobsticks will tell anyone within earshot that he is nothing like Fat Bob, thank you very much, even as Fat Bob's shadow trails him through the bamboo like an unpaid debt collector. In the Okiyo region he was rich once, stacked bags deep enough to make a shogun blush, until Fred's snake sank its fangs into his ankle and the venom seemed to dissolve every koin he'd ever aped into along with most of his dignity. He swears it was a strategic exit from material attachment, not a rug, and repeats this loudly to the shadow that only smirks and counts imaginary coins behind him. Since then he has draped himself in Buddhist robes two sizes too small, meditating in fits and starts before bolting up mid-lotus to check phantom charts on a phone he can no longer afford. He calls it enlightenment, the shadow calls it bankruptcy with incense, and somewhere between the two Fatty Bobsticks keeps insisting, breathless and grinning, that he is finally his own man.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
He exists in Fat Bob's extended universe — related, distinct, and absolutely exhausted by the comparison. Same build, same laugh, different problems. Do not, he begs you, get them confused.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ceremony interrupted. The Disheveled Geisha fighters started something formal and ended something entirely different.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
