So when he slammed his whole fief down on one reckless hand at the Emperor's Palace, he did it his own way, loud, grinning, utterly unhinged, and the dice repaid his originality by snapping his finger clean sideways. He howled that it was a rugpull, that fortune itself had aped against him, all while nursing the swollen digit like a war wound earned in some grand samurai campaign instead of a stupid bet made half drunk on plum wine. In the quiet after, ice pressed to his hand, he found himself missing the old days on the estate, back when his only duty was scooping dung from the stables, back when discipline meant a shovel and a schedule instead of chips and chaos. He swears he is turning it around, swears the next bet is the last bet, and somewhere in the shadows Fat Bob is laughing so hard the ancestors can hear it.
