Fatty Bobsticks ran the Yakuza with a katana in one hand and a ledger in the other, feet planted, spine straight, until the Dojo gardens got him with their low tables and lower standards, and now he insists, loudly, to anyone within earshot, that whatever they heard about Fat Bob has nothing to do with him. He is his own man, thank you, a man who happens to also nap in koi ponds and negotiate territory in edibles instead of steel, but different, distinct, a sequel with better pacing. The shadow of Fat Bob follows him between the bamboo stalks anyway, smug and rounder, and Fatty spends whole afternoons arguing with it, defending discipline he abandoned somewhere near the sake barrels. He swears next spring he trims the garden properly, drills at dawn, becomes the leader he was again, and every spring he ends up floor six of a bag he swore was his last, grinning like a man who won something. Somehow he has never felt better, which honestly should worry someone, but nobody in the Dojo has the energy to be that someone.
Whose bones? The fighter who wears them knows. They're not saying. The Finger Bones fighters operate on a level of commitment that most find uncomfortable.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
He exists in Fat Bob's extended universe — related, distinct, and absolutely exhausted by the comparison. Same build, same laugh, different problems. Do not, he begs you, get them confused.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Named for sensation. The Splitting Axe Ache fighters' hair is named for how their opponents feel after they're done.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
