Diary
Igor The Bear used to move like winter itself, slow, certain, unkillable, the kind of patience that could outlast a siege. Then the snow got long and the days got white and quiet, and somewhere between the third bottle and the fourth bad ape into a coin that rugged before the blizzard even lifted, that patience cracked like ice under a boot. Now he sits in the drifts sharpening a blade with hands too numb to hold a grudge properly, muttering that seppuku is the only disciplined thing left to try since everything else he's tried has failed spectacularly. He'll get up in a minute, he says, he'll do it right, honor restored, snow melted, floor respected, just as soon as he finishes this last drink to steady the nerves. The blade waits. The snow waits. Igor, heavy as a mountain and twice as stubborn, waits longest of all, and that, more than any ritual cut, is the most warrior-like thing about him.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The blue Oni does not rage. The blue Oni waits. The Blue Oni Tattoo fighters are the calmest ones in the room — which makes them the most dangerous.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Demon woman, half revealed. The Hannya Half Mask fighters show the monstrous half and keep the human half private.
In motion even when still. The Wavy fighters are always already moving — the hair is just the most visible evidence.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
