Igor the Bear did not argue quickly. He argued the way glaciers argue with mountains, one grinding word an hour, while the other samurai on that windbitten beach paced and shouted and wore grooves into the sand with their fury. Somewhere between the fourth hour and the seventh, half listening to the wind and half listening to the old discipline still snoring somewhere under his ribs, the shape of the den arrived in his skull fully formed, dice already loaded, tables already crooked. He told himself it would be temporary, a floor to stand on while he rebuilt the dojo he'd let rot, but temporary things have a way of calcifying under a bear's weight and now the lanterns of his gambling den burn every night like a promise he stopped trying to keep. Some mornings he still rises before dawn, plants his feet, resolves today to be the day of the sword again, and by noon he is seated behind the same crooked table, immovable, warm, hopelessly rugged by his own good intentions.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Fox face. The Kitsune Mask fighters wear the shapeshifter's face — which means every identity is available to them and none is fixed.
Intentional declaration. The Mohawk Spike fighters made a choice that announces itself before they speak.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
