Igor The Bear moves through the world like a landslide that forgot to stop, and once, in the drinking-soaked lanes of Okiyo, that slow momentum carried him somewhere shameful before he could even think to plant his feet. Sake-thick and swaying, he hurled obscenities at women passing the teahouse, his old samurai code buried somewhere under the weight of him, too far down to dig out in time. The Igor who once stood immovable in defense of honor became, for one ugly hour, the very disorder he was built to hold back. Now he carries Okiyo the way he carries everything, slowly, heavily, saying nothing about it, choosing instead to forget, though forgetting takes the same enormous effort as remembering ever did. He tells himself discipline is a mountain he is still climbing, never mentioning that mountains, like Igor, mostly just sit there.rn
