Igor The Veteran does not tell you what The Old Dragon said in the streets of Kyoto that night, and no one asks him twice. He walked home after, past the shuttered noodle stalls, and something in him that had held steady since the wars quietly gave out, like a floor nobody rings a bell for before it drops. Seven nights now, no sleep, just Igor sitting seiza in the dark with a lukewarm can and his old katana across his knees, trying to remember the breathing drills his sensei drilled into him before he traded discipline for whatever this is. He tells the young fighters that meditation fixed it once, that he's about to start again any day now, and the room goes quiet the way it always does when Igor talks, not because they believe him, but because nobody's brave enough to say he looks like a man who aped into a bad trade with his own faith and got rugged by a dragon.
