They called it the Darkness Festival, and Igor calls it the day his body quit before his spirit did, training beside scumbags who laughed when his gut gave out and his hakama didn't hold. He does not explain further. No one asks twice. The dojo discipline he once wore like armor slid off him in that mud, and he has spent years chasing it back through the bottom of a cup and the bottom of a deck, running a gambling den so crooked the floor itself seems to tilt toward the house. He still rises at dawn to drill forms alone, blade cutting clean air, and still by noon he's dealing rigged hands to drunks, telling himself tomorrow he starts over. The room goes quiet when he talks, not because his words are many, but because the men in it know a soldier's shame when it walks in wearing a dealer's smile.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.

The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.
