Diary
They called him Igor The Veteran before he earned it twice, once with a blade and once with the wreckage he made of himself. On Degens Path he sold out his own blood for a bag that rugged by morning, and the shame of it aged him faster than any war ever did. For a long stretch he lived in the wreckage, weed smoke and empty bottles standing in for the discipline his old dojo once beat into his spine. He tried to claw that discipline back, waking at dawn to meditate, only to find himself three hours later staring at a chart instead of a candle, still chasing the wrong kind of stillness. He does not explain what happened on that path, and the room goes quiet when he does not, because wisdom bought that cheap only comes from losing everything first.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Aged. Sharp. The Short Spiky Grey fighters have been here long enough for color to leave — and found that what remained is more pointed than before.
Musical instrument. Strung instrument. The Shamisen fighters understand that performance and violence are not opposites — they are the same act in different registers.
