Diary
Junichiro once measured a blade's edge to the width of a hair and a bow to the precise angle his father taught him, so it should surprise no one that he kept a ledger for his own ruin with the same terrible exactness. Every koban he'd staked on his family's honor went instead into Yoshiwara's lantern light, spent serenading courtesans who applauded his shamisen with the same polite indifference the market shows a rugged token. He tells himself it was research into harmony, into breath control, into the discipline of performance, but the empty strongbox behind his family's shrine keeps its own unforgiving score. Now he drills his younger brothers on posture and ledger-balance with a scowl sharp enough to cut silk, quietly failing his own audit every single night, aping into one more song, one more cup, promising the abacus in his head that tomorrow the number turns green. He has not told his family, because a man who once corrected the emperor's own calligrapher cannot yet find the stroke that spells the word broke.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Unglamorous and honest. The Black Peasant Sack fighters didn't dress for anyone else. They dressed for function and found that function is its own statement.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo wrote on it. The Degen Graffiti Rice Hat fighters carry the collection's mark on the highest point of their body.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
