Diary
Junichiro of the Okiyo region once measured his blade strokes to the width of a hair, and now he measures the shame in his cup with the same exacting eye, finding it, infuriatingly, always full to the brim. He had agreed to one respectful drink with Legless Tom, a man whose very name should have been a warning etched in stone, and by the second hour Junichiro was reciting his father's old maxims to a stray dog while Tom cackled and rugged him on a bet about who could stand up straightest. The rude awakening came at dawn on the floor of some nameless Okiyo teahouse, dignity aped away, robe askew, posture a disgrace his old sensei would have caned out of him in one motion. He has never been more miserable, not because of the headache, but because he catalogued every failure of self-control in his mind with perfect clarity, the way he once catalogued footwork, and found the first son of his house wanting. Still he rises, brushes off the dust, and vows through gritted teeth to do better tomorrow, a vow he has now made, and broken, with the same flawless consistency he once reserved for his swordplay.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
The disguise is the identity. The Degen Superhero glasses fighters have a secret — or maybe the secret is that there's no secret and they've always been exactly this.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
