Junichiro once measured a bow by the degree, a blade's edge by the light it caught, and himself by a standard so exacting that even his ancestors seemed to flinch under his gaze from their portraits. So it was a particular cruelty of fate that his ruin arrived not through defeat in battle but through one thousand red gates at Fushimi, where he made the mistake of matching cups with The English Pilot, a man who drank sake like it owed him money. Junichiro remembers insisting on proper form, on the correct angle of the cup, on silence between toasts, right up until the moment he was found asleep against a torii wearing someone else's sandals and reciting shipping forecasts in broken English. He tells himself he has since restored his discipline, rising at dawn to fold his gi with military precision, though the gi is usually still on the floor and dawn is usually closer to noon. And yet, ask him how he feels, and he will straighten his spine, look you dead in the eye, and declare through the fog of a very real hangover that every dream he ever had has, at long last, come true.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for what it abandoned. The No Honor Kimono fighters gave up on the codes others follow and found that this freed them completely.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Fox face. The Kitsune Mask fighters wear the shapeshifter's face — which means every identity is available to them and none is fixed.
Not born with them. Became them. The Grey Oni Horns fighters grew their nature slowly until it became structural.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
