Diary
They say Junichiro died once, quietly, on the palace roof, and what climbed back down the tiles that night only borrowed his face. Up there he had worn his superior's armor and voice for a season, mimicking the man's stance so precisely that even the guards saluted the wrong ghost, and somewhere between the mimicry and the moonlight his own swordsmanship simply outgrew the lie. He tells the story now with the calm of a man reading a menu, as if becoming someone else were just another rep in training, another cheap edge farmed off a superior he no longer fears. These days he talks of opening his own dojo, sketches its banners on napkins between hits of a joint that has gone out twice, and swears this time the discipline will stick, though the incense keeps losing to the smell of grilled skewers and old sake. Ask him if the man on the roof ever really came down, and Junichiro just smiles, refills his cup, and says the second life tastes better anyway.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Seasonal. Fleeting. Beautiful because it ends. The Autumn Sakura Kimono fighters understand that the things that don't last are what make things matter.
He walked into something that should have ended him and walked back out with the same name and none of the same conditions. Nobody agrees what happened out there, and he's in no hurry to explain.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
