They say Junichiro died once, in a manner of speaking, and the man who walked out of that story was never quite the same, which is a generous way of saying he got caught smoking weed out in the cold behind the dojo gates and every ounce of respectability he'd banked simply rugged him overnight. He doesn't flinch when the elders mention it now; he just smiles that too-calm smile, the one that says he already priced in the humiliation and moved on to the next incarnation of himself. Some nights he still stands out there in the frost, blunt cupped against the wind, telling anyone who'll listen that discipline is just a floor he keeps forgetting how to hold, then laughing softly like the joke was on time itself.
