They say Junichiro Reborn died once already, quietly, somewhere between the third sake and the fourth apology, and what walked out of that main Buddhist temple afterward only borrowed his face. The story goes he'd gone there to rob the poor pilgrims lined up for blessings, a low move even by degen-samurai standards, and somewhere between the offering box and the bronze bell his mojo slipped out of him like loose change through a torn sleeve. He remembers the monks chanting, remembers his own hands shaking not from fear but from the strange sensation of a soul politely excusing itself from the premises. Now he moves through the dojo halls with the unbothered calm of a man who has already lost everything worth losing, chin high, robe pressed, proud in the specific way only the truly hollowed-out can afford to be. He still tells the story like a punchline at his own funeral, smiling faintly, because discipline never came back for him, but the myth did, and the myth pays better anyway.”
