Under the bridge at Nihonbashi, Junichiro Reborn once knelt and said a prayer meant for absolution, and something answered that was not quite a god and not quite a demon, and he walked out the other side tainted, calm, and strangely amused by his own ruin. He tells people now that dying a little is the best thing that ever happened to his portfolio and his patience, delivered with the same flat serenity whether he is discussing seppuku or slippage. The old sword discipline still visits him sometimes, in the way he folds his hands before meditation or lines his tatami mats just so, before he inevitably wanders off to ape into some rugged token because the chart looked like a koi pond at dusk. He has officially retired from that past life under the bridge, he says, the way a man retires from smoking cigarettes while holding a lit one, and there is no irony in his eyes when he says it, only that unsettling, bottomless calm. Ask him if he is still tainted and he will smile like a man who has already died once and found the paperwork surprisingly easy.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
He walked into something that should have ended him and walked back out with the same name and none of the same conditions. Nobody agrees what happened out there, and he's in no hurry to explain.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's version of a mohawk. More specific, more named. The Dejen Mohawk fighters chose the Dojo's interpretation of rebellion over the generic one.
A rat. Named. With opinions. Mr. Rumi The Rat is a familiar, a co-combatant, and probably the one with the plan. The fighter is the muscle.
