Before Mount Koriyoka, there was a first Junichiro, and the men who trained him there in the mud and cheap sake were not sensei, only scumbags with strong opinions about oi-zuki and weaker opinions about hygiene. Somewhere between a borrowed gi and a borrowed dojo he caught a rash that no scroll of bushido ever warned him about, and when the fever broke he swore something in him had broken too and been rebuilt slightly wrong, slightly better. People say he died a little on that mountain and came back calm as a still pond that has simply stopped caring what falls into it, and Junichiro, smiling like a man in on his own ghost story, does not correct them. Now he announces plans to teach self defence to the village, mostly by demonstrating how not to get a mysterious skin condition from men who call themselves masters, and he practices his forms each dawn with the discipline of someone who has clearly forgotten by noon. The old samurai in him still bows to the sunrise out of habit, then loses the rest of the day to card games and the itch he insists is only a memory, both of them undefeated.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Excess made armor. The Glutton Fight fighters wear their hunger on the outside — not for food, but for everything the Dojo offers.
He walked into something that should have ended him and walked back out with the same name and none of the same conditions. Nobody agrees what happened out there, and he's in no hurry to explain.

Organization meets chaos. The Yakuza Hooligan fighters have discipline from one tradition and abandon from another, and they've combined them into something entirely their own.
A rat. Named. With opinions. Mr. Rumi The Rat is a familiar, a co-combatant, and probably the one with the plan. The fighter is the muscle.
