Diary
Junichiro arrived at the main temple with a checklist longer than the sutras themselves, certain that impersonating a visiting monk required nothing but posture, patience, and the kind of discipline he swore he still possessed beneath all the sake stains. He had rehearsed the bow eleven times, graded his own chanting on a scale he invented that morning, and still managed to fail the one variable he never audited: the head monk's straight razor and a vow of humility Junichiro had not technically taken. By the time the ceremony ended he was bald, blistered, and utterly humiliated, muttering under his breath that a first son does not lose his hair to a bureaucratic misunderstanding about robes. Yet the other fighters at the Dojo saw only a man who walked into sacred ground pretending to be someone he wasn't and walked out shaved clean without flinching once, and somehow that reckless, half degen stunt earned him more respect than any of his perfectly measured katas ever had. Junichiro accepted the praise the way he accepts everything, with a curt nod and an inward vow to be more disciplined next time, a vow he is already, quietly, failing to keep.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Elevated tradition. The High Straw Rice Hat fighters dress high above their own heads — everything they do is reaching upward.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
