One-Eyed Itsuki woke on the dojo roof with tile dust in his topknot and three sake-drunk priests snoring beside him like a row of fallen Buddhas, and something in his one good eye clicked into focus the way it always does when the other eye has already given up looking. He decided, right there under a sky he could only half see but somehow read twice as well as anyone, that this was the morning he became honorable again, properly, permanently, no more rooftop communion with holy men who quote scripture and lose at dice in the same breath. He climbed down to seek counsel from the old sensei, who took one look at his robe stained with temple wine and said only, half the world sees clearly and half of you clearly did not learn from it. Itsuki nodded like a man taking sacred instruction, then wandered off to ask a fortune-teller instead, because priests gave him vice and the sensei gave him truth, and truth has always been the harder floor to hold. By dusk he was back on that same roof, cup in hand, telling himself this was research into the nature of discipline, one eye steady on the horizon, the other, as ever, already asleep on the job.
Decorative. Traditional. The Tassel fighters know that ornament and function are not opposites — presentation is part of performance.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
'Itsuki' — a tree, deep roots and one straight trunk. He lost the eye in a story he tells four different ways depending on how much he likes you, and what's left sees more than most manage with two.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Architecture on the scalp. Each knot a decision. The Black Bantu Knots fighters make their choices visible at the top, where everyone can see.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
