They still talk about the snow that fell on the road outside Shirakawa, the year One-Eyed Itsuki turned on the superior who'd spent a decade grinding his spirit into powder, one clean strike and a legend was born before the blood even cooled. He lost the other eye that day, or maybe he traded it, he tells people he can see twice as clearly with half the equipment, and nobody's brave enough to argue the math. These days he sits at the temple steps trying to devote himself to Buddha, incense in one hand, a joint he swears is "just for the joints" in the other, meditation session interrupted every twenty minutes by his own private rug pull into a nap. He calls it enlightenment on a vesting schedule, unlocking slow, mostly unbothered by how little discipline actually shows up to claim it. Ask him if he regrets the snow and he just says the storm passed, the temple's still standing, and so is he, one eye open is still open enough to watch the whole world lie to itself.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
'Itsuki' — a tree, deep roots and one straight trunk. He lost the eye in a story he tells four different ways depending on how much he likes you, and what's left sees more than most manage with two.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
