Diary
One-Eyed Itsuki lost the eye to a blade decades ago and lost the rest of his composure to a fever he caught kneeling in snow outside a brothel he swears he only visited for the tea. The disease that followed was humiliating, itchy, and by his own account the most honest teacher he ever had, sharper than any sword-saint who charged him for lessons in stillness. He decided, shivering under a shared blanket with his dignity rugged clean off the floor, that enlightenment doesn't care how it arrives, only that you're awake enough to notice it did. These days he sits very still, drinks his sake slow, and tells anyone who'll listen that he's writing a book, though the only page finished says
Decorative. Traditional. The Tassel fighters know that ornament and function are not opposites — presentation is part of performance.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for the journey, not the destination. The Recovering Alcoholic fighters are in process — and process is honest in a way that arrival never is.
'Itsuki' — a tree, deep roots and one straight trunk. He lost the eye in a story he tells four different ways depending on how much he likes you, and what's left sees more than most manage with two.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's samurai. The Dejen Samurai fighters carry the warrior tradition through the collection's own lens — ancient code, contemporary context.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
