Diary
One-Eyed Itsuki only needs half his sight to see twice as much as most men, but even his good eye missed the monkey that came skittering across the fish stalls while he was deep in conversation with Haru about nothing in particular, probably sake or the price of eel. His hand moved before his monk-like discipline could catch up to it, the old reflex of a blade drawn a thousand times in wars that no longer exist, and the monkey met its end mid-thief, clutching a stolen mackerel it never got to enjoy. Haru went quiet. The fishmonger went quieter. Itsuki simply sheathed his sword, looked at the small furry casualty of his twitchy hand, and felt something no ronin ever trains for: shame so tremendous it could fill the whole market square. He still walks past that stall some mornings, one eye scanning the crowd for trouble, the other apparently reserved for guilt, silently vowing to be a calmer, more disciplined man, a vow that lasts exactly until the next pickpocket, primate or otherwise, gets too close to his lunch.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
'Itsuki' — a tree, deep roots and one straight trunk. He lost the eye in a story he tells four different ways depending on how much he likes you, and what's left sees more than most manage with two.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Named for the legendary fighter. The Red Heihachi fighters carry that name's weight in every match and find it light.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
