One-Eyed Itsuki only needs half his sight to know a sake house floor is no place for a blade, but discipline had long since been rugged out of his daily routine, replaced by whatever jug was cheapest that week. He was mid-sharpen, stone dragging slow against steel in that old temple rhythm, when a monkey aped its way onto his table hunting scraps, and his hand moved faster than his one good eye could stop it. The monkey screeched, the sake spilled, and every degenerate ronin in the room saw exactly what happened, even the ones seeing double from their cups. Itsuki, calm as ever, announced the only honorable path was seppuku, then spent three days prepping by getting stoned in the yard and pushing the ceremony back like a mint date nobody actually wants to hit. Even half-blind he sees clean through himself, discipline was never really coming home, monkey blood on the floorboards or not.”
