One-Eyed Itsuki used to say a man with one eye still sees twice as much as a man who isn't paying attention, and for years that steadiness kept the Dojo gardens pristine under his rake. Then came the afternoon his patience finally rolled over like a bad bet, and he sabotaged his own master mid-lesson, tipping a koi pond's drainage stone loose just to watch the old man's sandals squelch through mud for a week. He didn't run from it, didn't even blink twice, just stood there with his arms crossed and one eye doing the work of two, unbothered by the disaster he'd authored. Later, sober enough to feel the shame but too stubborn to show it, he muttered that he could do better, then immediately rolled a joint on the same stone bench where his master used to teach him balance. He can do better, sure, everyone in the Dojo knows it, they're just still waiting on the receipts.
