Diary
Raikou was floating through the fish market on a cloud of nothing in particular, mid-sentence with Haru about the tuna floor price dipping again, when his finger got caught between two crates like the universe itself was trying to teach him a lesson about mindfulness. There was a snap, a long pause, and then a slow smile, because pain, like a rugged bag, is just the market correcting itself. He remembers being a samurai once, a man of discipline who could hold a blade steady for hours, but these days his steadiest grip is on a lighter and his katana gathers dust like an old JPEG nobody minted. Sitting there with his finger swelling like a bad trade, Haru still talking, Raikou nodded along and quietly vowed to seek healthier pleasures, maybe yoga, maybe green tea, definitely not that second bowl he was already packing. He failed within the hour, obviously, but he failed with peace in his heart, which he figures counts as fifty percent enlightenment and one hundred percent Tuesday.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
'Raikou' — lightning light. He moved slow and easy right up until the instant he didn't, and then it was over. These days he's mostly slow, and swears the smoke helps him think.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Architecture on the scalp. Each knot a decision. The Black Bantu Knots fighters make their choices visible at the top, where everyone can see.
Musical instrument. Strung instrument. The Shamisen fighters understand that performance and violence are not opposites — they are the same act in different registers.
