Diary
Raikou The Stoner had gone to the Nagasaki Lantern Festival chasing enlightenment, or maybe just a decent snack cart, when destiny rugged his whole itinerary in the form of a pig. Some grandmothers, unimpressed by his sandals-and-katana fit, hocked loogies his way like they were airdropping disrespect directly onto his aura, but Raikou just closed his eyes and let it wash over him, deep breath in, deep breath out, discipline attempt number four thousand and one, failed beautifully. The pig, unbothered by market sentiment or elder spit, looked at him with the kind of degenerate serenity he'd been chasing since he traded his dojo robes for a lifetime supply of weed, and Raikou felt his heart ape in fully, floor price be damned. He sat there under the red lanterns getting drooled on by both ends of the age spectrum, whispering to the pig that they were now soulbound, that some bonds transcend rugpulls and reincarnation. By the time the festival lights dimmed he was grinning like a monk who'd just found out nirvana comes with a plus-one, utterly, catastrophically pleased with himself, discipline officially rekt for the evening.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
'Raikou' — lightning light. He moved slow and easy right up until the instant he didn't, and then it was over. These days he's mostly slow, and swears the smoke helps him think.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
