Raikou had come to the Nagasaki Lantern Festival to meditate on impermanence and maybe hotbox behind a paper dragon, not to get aped by Fred's snake, but the universe rugs you when it wants to teach you something. One minute he was floating in lantern-light like a discipline he swore he'd reclaim someday, the next there was lightning where his calm used to be and a fang buried deep in his nipple, gone clean off before he even registered the bite. Old samurai instincts flickered, some ghost of a katana hand twitching for a draw that never came, but the weed in his blood just chuckled and told the ghost to chill. Instead of screaming he just... vibed, eyes half-lidded, whispering
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Every frequency visible. The Rainbow Kimono fighters contain multitudes and decided to wear them all at once rather than choose.
'Raikou' — lightning light. He moved slow and easy right up until the instant he didn't, and then it was over. These days he's mostly slow, and swears the smoke helps him think.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Movement made permanent. The Long Flowing fighters trail behind themselves in every room they enter — the hair arrives first, then the fighter.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
