Yuji The Wise once kept a leather-bound journal of tactics and sutras, the kind of samurai who annotated his own footwork after every duel at the Fight Pits of old Kyoto. He tells anyone who'll listen that he was sane, measured, a man of margins and citations, right up until the evening Oleg passed him a joint the size of a wakizashi and called it "a philosophical experiment." Yuji, ever the scholar, felt obligated to document the experience firsthand, and three hours later he was narrating his own heartbeat to a confused rooster near the ring. He has since sworn, in florid footnotes only he reads, to curate a higher caliber of companion, someone who quotes Basho instead of belching smoke rings shaped like fight-pit champions. And yet every full moon finds him back beside Oleg, notebook open, pen hovering, discipline once again losing the fight to curiosity and cheap weed.
Whose bones? The fighter who wears them knows. They're not saying. The Finger Bones fighters operate on a level of commitment that most find uncomfortable.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Organization ink made visible. The Black Yakuza Sleeves fighters belong to something — a code, a history — and they advertise their membership without speaking.
A fighter first and a thinker second — until the day he laughed with Haru in the streets and simply set the sword down for good. He calls it wisdom; some call it losing his nerve.
Nothing hidden. No armor above the neck. The Bald fighters face everything without cover and consider this the only honest approach.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
