Yuji The Wise

Diary

Yuji The Wise once commanded rooms with a raised eyebrow and a ledger of debts nobody dared question, a Yakuza captain whose word rearranged whole city blocks. Then Masumi cornered him on the dojo roof under a sky the color of an unpaid invoice, and whatever she said unmade seven days of his sleep in one sitting. Now he narrates his own unraveling like a man annotating a manuscript he can't stop reading, footnoting his own eye twitches, cross-referencing his tremors against old glory like a scholar who mistook insomnia for enlightenment. He tells himself discipline is just a matter of scheduling, journals his bedtime with the seriousness of a man drafting treaty terms, then stays up till dawn rereading the journal instead. Somewhere beneath the fluorescent hum of his own narration is a leader who used to close his eyes and simply trust the dark, and Yuji misses him the way you miss a chapter you know you'll never rewrite the same way twice.
